Masque Rage

Masque Rage is a fast paced arena style party fighting  game. The game was inspired by a piece of street art titled “Love is a revolutionary act” by Saner Edgar.  The game also takes inspiration from Gashapon styled games in which the player "pulls" individual characters with different rarities from a large pool of obtainable characters instead of selecting them from a character select screen. In Masque Rage players are given three random characters to fight with.

Masque Rage is a Game Jam Game that was created for the 2018 Montreal Street Art Game Jam Competition. The prompt for the Jam involved walking around the city of Montreal to find a certain piece of street art that was particularly striking to your team and then creating a game based on that piece of art. The jam was roughly 72 hours in length including breaks for eating and sleeping. When designing Masque Rage, I felt that it was important to have a wide variety of characters so that each and every match felt different (also to keep it in scope, I decided that each character would only have one ability). I also felt that it would be exciting to have characters of varying rarities and strengths so that finding rare and powerful characters would feel more exciting. The game's matches are incredibly short, so even if a player doesn't pull any strong characters they will be given another chance the next game shortly after. Making sure that all of the characters felt unique was also important, with a good variety of play styles, players and spectators alike would find it exciting to see just what every character is capable of.
